The Plus X Award has been issued since 2004 and is Europe’s largest technology competition. Here, manufacturers in the fields of household appliances, IT, consumer electronics, power tools and mobile and photo technology present their top products to a panel of top-class judges consisting of experts and technical journalists. The awards include the coveted Plus X Seal for special performance in the categories of innovation, design, ease of use/functionality, ergonomics and ecology. The Plus X Award is the symbol of brand quality.

Six prizes to Bauknecht
Design, ease of use, functionality and the highest quality – Bauknecht showed impressive evidence of these core skills at this year’s Plus X Award. Overall, the household appliance manufacturer won six of the renowned prizes at Europe’s largest technology competition for its new kitchen appliances. The elegant BlackLine range of built-in appliances, the inspiring Bauknecht Galerie – an extractor hood with an interchangeable designer front panel – and four built-in KOSMOS appliances with a revolutionary iXeliumTM coating: the oven, the compact microwave oven, the combi steamer and the designer hood.

Over the past year, a number of Bauknecht’s products have impressed the judges at various well-known design and innovation award ceremonies – and now the Plus X Award is naming Bauknecht the best brand for design in the field of large household appliances. Bauknecht is therefore the household appliance brand with the most awards in the field of design in 2013/14.
In addition, Bauknecht won the top prize for the fourth time, as “Most Innovative Brand of 2013” in the large electronic appliances product category.

“We are especially proud to have won ‘Most Innovative Brand of the Year’ for the fourth time,” says Dr Axel T. Kniehl, Chairman of the Board for Bauknecht Hausgeräte GmbH and Vice President of Sales for the North and Continental Region. Bauknecht’s outstandingly high level of innovation, design skill and particular customer orientation, which are reflected in the brand as well as in all Bauknecht’s products, were all taken into account when awarding the prizes. Thirteen Bauknecht products each won one of the coveted Plus X Awards, and five of them were even selected for “Product of the Year” as the best appliance in their category. Alongside distinctions in several categories such as design and ecology, five new Bauknecht products also received the “Best Product of the Year 2013” seal in their respective appliance groups:
1.) The new Bauknecht GKN 3283 A3+ Shock WH freezer with shock frost function provides you for the first time with freezing that maintains freshness to a professional standard. The A+++ appliance is also exceptionally energy-efficient. The “best freezer of the year” also received high scores in the categories of high quality, design, ease of use, functionality and ecology.

The BLTMS 9100 IXL KOSMOS built-in oven, ECTM 9145/1 IXL combi steamer and EMCHT 9145 IXL compact microwave oven from the elegant iXeliumTM line gleam with an innovative iXeliumTM surface coating. This prevents discolouration and scratches and ensures that the appliances look like new even after years of intensive use.
3.) With the DDC 7750 “Bauknecht Galerie” designer hood, creativity can find an outlet in the kitchen: using a couple of simple handles, users can replace the front as the mood takes them. In this way, they can personalise their kitchen and bring a touch of art to their home.
The timeless look of the BlackLine range is one of Bauknecht’s highlights of 2013 – it combines innovative technologies for everyday use with high-quality materials and pioneering design, and has already received four prizes at the 2013 Kitchen Innovation Awards. For the BlackLine’s solid black surfaces, a particularly high-grade, resilient SCHOTT® SeeClear plate glass is used, developed by Bauknecht in collaboration with the German group of technology companies, SCHOTT®. The Plus X Awards judges rewarded the full BlackLine range in the categories of high quality, design and functionality. As well as a built-in oven, a steamer with a food probe, a compact microwave oven with grill and crisp function and two different designer hoods, the BlackLine range includes a perfectly complementary pair of appliances consisting of a freezer and full-size refrigerator with ProFresh technology, which conserves food perfectly for up to four times as long (based on SLG test no. 5087-10-RR-PP001 2010-10, compared to a Bauknecht NoFrost refrigerator).
Selected appliances from Bauknecht’s high-quality KOSMOS line have recently also become available in iXeliumTM versions. These products gleam with a revolutionary iXeliumTM nano-coating, which prevents discolouration and scratches on the surfaces. This allows the appliances to be cleaned easily with just water and means that they will still look like new even after years of intensive use. The design of the iXeliumTM-coated KOSMOS appliances is characterised by minimalist elegance and combines durable stainless steel surfaces with clear glass elements. This high-grade combination of design and functionality also impressed the judges at the Plus X Awards: The built-in oven and designer hood from the iXeliumTM series received awards in the high quality and design categories, and the compact microwave oven and combi steamer also won awards in the ease of use category.
Traditionally, extractor hoods have been purely functional – but the Bauknecht Galerie does much more than just remove steam and smoke from the kitchen: the designer hood is an inspiring work of art that gives the entire kitchen a new feel and lends it a personal touch. The Bauknecht Galerie’s high-grade glass front can be exchanged using a couple of simple handles to suit the user’s mood – there are currently four different designs available to choose from. That’s how the innovative product earned the Plus X Award in the categories of high quality and design.
